August 18, 2014 - According to a new report, one in seven Americans is receiving food assistance. But the faces of those struggling to put food on the table may surprise some. Manuel Bojorquez reports.
About 20 percent of all the households using Feeding America services include a member who is serving or has served in the military. Of those, 620,000 households have at least one member currently in the military, which is one quarter of all U.S. military households.
The Hunger in America study series is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive insight into charitable food distribution in the United States.
Hunger in America is a series of quadrennial studies that provide comprehensive demographic profiles of people seeking food assistance through the charitable sector and an in-depth analysis of the partner agencies in the Feeding America network that provide this assistance. It is the largest study of its kind. The data collected through the Hunger in America studies help guide the development of programs and solutions that improve food security for individuals and their households and inform public policy and support for solving hunger in America.
Hunger in America 2014 is the sixth and most comprehensive study undertaken. The 2014 study reveals that each year, the Feeding America network of food banks provides service to 46.5 million people in need across the United States, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors. Why those served don't feel the need even to pay the multi billions in war costs, mostly to private corporate contractors, leading into the trillions!
August 18, 2014 - Despite the economic recovery, more than 46 million Americans — or one in seven — used a food pantry last year. And a surprisingly high number of those seeking help were households with military members, according to a new survey by Feeding America, which is a network of U.S. food banks.
The — conducted in 2013 — found that almost 620,000 of the households using Feeding America services have at least one member currently in the military. That's one quarter of all U.S. military households.
Deborah Flateman, who's president and CEO of the Maryland Food Bank in Baltimore, says she isn't surprised. Last year, her food bank started working with groups like the USO to provide food aid to families affiliated with nearby military bases like Fort Meade.
She says, so far, they've used their mobile food pantry to distributed more than 200,000 pounds of food to military families.
"They're not unlike any of the other families that we serve," says Flateman. "They meet hardship and they need assistance with food."

It is important that we openly and willingly discuss our mistakes and how we intend to improve. As we acknowledge areas where more work is needed, we also need to set the record straight when our work is unfairly mischaracterized.

What the Country Served, poser patriotism, should have already not only funded but built, as technologies advanced, decades and wars from especially, is finally coming into being.
After finding private businesses to contract and work with the DoD and the VA to develop and put into use, decades of problems from lack of funding, along with ignoring and even denying the costly issues of wars, and growing outdated practices which cost extremely much more to fix and are often compounded into other costly problems, personal and monetary, to bring these Government Agencies important issues into 21st century practice and use thus needing only regular maintenance costs to maintain as new technologies enhance their abilities.
This isn't only in sharing health care needs issues between these two agencies, which should have always been, especially in war related times, but existed especially in the Veterans Administration right up to these last recent years and way too long needs of developing updated practices while still working with obstructed and grossly under funded budgets thus taking from other area's, in this present executive administration with help from the other cabinet agencies, of the budget which created more problems that compound.
The Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs have installed a software viewer that allows clinicians to jointly access health record systems at seven VA facilities and two Defense facilities — and this meets the definition of a “full deployment” set by the secretaries of the two departments, a Pentagon spokeswoman said.
The two agencies combined operate a total of more than 1,300 clinics and hospitals.
The Joint Legacy Viewer combines data from VA and DOD health information systems and displays it chronologically on a single screen, eliminating the need for clinicians to access two separate applications.

September 2, 2014 - The women, which includes Illinois congresswoman Tammy Duckworth all bonded while recovering from the injuries they suffered in Iraq and Afghanistan. But now they can all bond over the new chapter of their life — motherhood.
Four female Iraq veterans who bonded over the loss of their limbs are now sharing a much happier experience together.
The women told the "Today" show about first getting wounded while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan but then finding each other at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. And now the women have all opened a new chapter of their lives by becoming mothers or pregnant.
"I am so thrilled that I'm gonna be a mother here in just — four months," Illinois Rep. Tammy Duckworth told the show. She was an Army captain who lost both of her legs when the helicopter she was co-piloting was shot down.
"These women were there for me as the band of sisters when — I went through the greatest pain, the greatest trauma in my life," Duckworth told the show. "And now we get to be together for the time of greatest joy."
They will join their fellow amputees by becoming mothers: Dawn Halfaker's son Raice was born four months ago and Danielle Green-Byrd gave birth last month to her son Daniel, the show reported. read more>>>

Soldier Missing From WWII Accounted For
September 03, 2014 - The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of a U.S. serviceman, missing since World War II, have been identified and are being returned to his family for burial with full military honors.
Army Pfc. Bernard Gavrin, 29, of Brooklyn, N.Y., will be buried on Sep. 12, in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. On June 15, 1944, as part of an Allied strategic goal to secure the Mariana Islands, U.S. forces were ordered to occupy Saipan. After a month of intense fighting, enemy forces conducted a suicide assault, known as a banzai attack. This was designed to inflict as many casualties as possible against the 105th Infantry Regiment (IR), 27th Infantry Division (ID). During these attacks, elements of the 105th IR sustained heavy losses, with more than 900 soldiers killed or injured. Gavrin was reported missing in action on July 7, 1944.read more>>>
